About Nicholas Sabatine

Nick Sabatine joined SME in 2023 and serves as our Brownfields Program Lead. He is a Professional Geologist (NH, NY) and often fulfills the role as a project program manager. Nick has over 30 years of environmental consulting experience on projects throughout the northeast.

Nick is an expert in Brownfields assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment programs, site remediation, ground water monitoring, and hydrogeologic evaluations for industrial, manufacturing, and municipal projects. His professional experience includes project management, staff leadership and mentorship, and technical direction for project work.

Notable project experience includes his involvement with the decommissioning and site closure of the former Maine Yankee nuclear power plant in Wiscasset, Maine. Nick’s work included site investigation of the 820-acre site as well as leading long-term groundwater monitoring. More recently (since 2019), he has been part of Our Katahdin’s team focused on the redevelopment of the former Great Northern Paper Mill Site (1400-acre) in Millinocket, Maine. To date, Nick and his team have led two U.S. EPA assessment and four cleanup grants as well as utilized several state-funded Revolving Loan Fund grants and loans to ready the site for redevelopment. Nick also leads several municipal U.S. EPA assessment projects.

Nick is a strategic thinker with real-world experience and an extensive professional network that allows him to map out a path to good solutions that maximize value to the client in complex site redevelopments.

He has a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Maine at Farmington and a master’s degree in environmental law from Vermont Law School. Nick enjoys spending time with his family on their mid-coast farm, going to his camp in northern Maine, and boating, fly fishing, and hunting with his two sons.
